We still have some parts to make/buy, but in the mean time we have most everything test fit. So far so good. Progress is going to slow down for a while, but I would really like to have Battleship Wally moving under his own power by March. We'll see.

That is really clean looking!. Nice job.

Note: Even if you use a Ubis hot end (the longest out there) you will be just short of the hot end touch the build plate. I used a 1/2" board under the basalt to place the hot bed in.

Yes, one of the things that we are missing is the board (bed) for under the basalt. Didn't want to use aluminum, the idea of putting a heat sink under the heater wasn't appealing :-)

Just for fun, was thinking about getting a piece of DURABOARD LD FIBER BOARD -

(scroll down the page a bit)

Great insulator, and supposedly easily workable in the un-fired state. $16 for 1/2" thick 12" X 12" piece. Only question is how strong it is when it's not fired. Too crumbly perhaps?

Otherwise, I'm sure I can find a piece of plywood around here and use the basalt as a template for a quick bed.
