Exploded views

5/16" bolts can be used a lot of places as a direct replacement for M8s. I only used metric to be more internationally friendly. The carriage bolts would work well.

I'm slowly gathering components to build a GUS Simpson. Is there anywhere on the design that 5/16" bolts won't work?

Thanks,
Graham

I use M8s so that 5/16 can be used with no problem. It is actually a bit frustrating because I have some buckets of bolts that have both in them. :D

I have a minor problem with the views/BOM.

The BOM lists 33 M8 Nyloc Stop Nuts.

The views show M8 Nuts.

Having finally printed a full set of arms, I tried to install the M8x60 screws. The nut traps would not take the Nyloc nuts. So, I suggest that the BOM is wrong and needs to specify 12 M8 flat nuts and 21 M8 Nyloc nuts and that the Exploded views should be updated to distinguish between Nyloc and flat nuts.

A more pertinent question is, 'Do we need Nyloc nuts, or could we replace them with a flat nut plus lock washer?'

I use all nyloc. For the bolts the strings go around, I put the nut on the normal way to thread the nylon and then flip it. I am using the bell end of the nuts to protect the string.

Locknuts and plain nut could be used instead of some of the nyloc nuts. It is up to the builder.
