@Tim
thanks. I noticed that the wrist joint has the bearings in the arm so I am planning on moving them to the wrists to keep my arms symmetric.

@Nicholas
After giving it some more thought I had come to the same conclusion.
I like your split belt idea better than anything else I've been able to come up with so I think I'm be looking at working it into my arm design. Thanks for all the help so far.

okay. so here's what I've got so far for the arm. I'm planning on using some of the extra flange bearings I got to give around the edges for the split belt to go on. The narrow section above the motor mount is for a pulley so the belt has a better amount of contact with the drive pulley. I haven't added the mount for the elbow end of the belt. I won't be printing this until my parts start coming in and I can verify a few measurements so I have some time to play around with things to make sure I get them right.
Let me know if you see anything that needs changing. I keep thinking about moving the motor down to the arm but it all fits so nicely this way and I don't need a toothed pulley or any twists in the belt.

I got my motors and bolts today. Also most of the printing is done now. I still don't have my end stops figured out yet so I haven't started printing. The main arm peaces yet. I also am waiting for my press fit for the Bowden tube before I print the hub pieces.

@Tim. Thanks, I have to credit those beautiful prints to my friend who is printing them for me on his modified makergear printer. It has an extra bearing block added to the bed axis and a two stage cooling fan added to the aftermarket extruder tip. It is the best tuned printer I've personally seen.

So while I wait for all the rest of my vitamins to come in does anybody have any thoughts on firmware. It looked like somebody had marlin almost ready for Gus but that died. I will probably go with repeater initially but I would like to eventually set it up so I can run Cartesian gcode right on the bot without having to do any preprocessing. I suppose I could modify repeater just as well but if it's mostly done already I would just assume finish that.
Thoughts?

Hello,

There is also a start on smoothieboard, I know for a fact that some of the math are not exact but once it's correct it will allow easy auto-level and stuff like that

Smoothieware looks nice but I ended up getting a mega 2560 so I can't use it until I upgrading my controller.

On a completely unrelated note, I did the math yesterday, I probably should have done it sooner but I didn't. It looks like with my current design I get a resolution of 0.3mm/ step which seems a bit low. I'm wondering how well micro stepping will work to give me added resolution. I am under the impression it is more for smoothing than adding resolution so If I can't get the resolution from micro stepping I can always use a belt reduction drive and move the motor towards the shoulder. But I would prefer to keep the parts count down. What are your thoughts?
