Precision requirements

Precision requirements

Postby Samuel » Sun Jun 22, 2014 4:23 am

I recently got my first 3d printer after lurking in the reprap community for years, and I've been slowly tweaking it to get decent prints. And print simpson parts. :D

I just saw the thread on the issues caused by printed spools. That was the first simpson part I tried to print actually. It turned out ok, but I'm just wondering if it's "good enough" or not.

The question I have right now is: to what precision do each of the parts need to be printed? Can I get away with higher speed but slightly rougher prints for some of the parts? Which ones require the most precision?

The spool is the most critical followed by the arms. Most of the parts are suprisingly tolerant to rough printing.

I would buy metal spools.
