New: GUS or WALLY?

Postby kingoddball » Mon May 05, 2014 12:40 am

Hello!
I'm not new to the 3D Printers, but to this style, yes!
So far I love the GUS.
Mostly just because it looks crazy!
I have built many of the standard Cartesian style printers and looking for a new type to build and these look fun!

Now, what would be the best one to build GUS or WALLY?
I am building it just "because I can" and shock value - They look crazy-awesome. :o

Unfortunately my current printer only has a small build area of 12*12*12cm...
Will this be ok to print other of these?

Can anyone recommend either style over the other?

Are these functional/good quality printers?
Not an insult at anything or anyone, just wanting to know if these also have the good quality of the standard (i2/i3 type) repraps?

Well, I would have to say both are not ready for prime time. Wally is likely to get replaced with a 1-Arm Scara and GUS isn't printing dimensionally accurate parts yet.

The good news is that I am about to enter into my summer break and I will be able to spend 80 hours+ a week continuing my work. One of my main goals for this summer is to get a Simpson style printer to self-replicate.

I am pretty sure all the STLs are good. Several people have printed parts. Give me some links and I will verify those files.

120x120 will be too small for the current designs. However, I will try to target that or smaller for the future.

Thank you for the honest reply!
Brilliant.
I had a look at the files, I feel I can cut them and rebuild using acetone.
I will hopefully post up some images when I start building :)

Thank you for taking the time.

I am builder/owner of Wally Chrome.
I think one of maybe 3 out there.
Very developmental and perhaps concept only
I am NOT able to print anything that is reasonable accurate.
You must use a Python program to convert gcode to wally gcode.
Z axis lift bed a real pain.
If you do a Wally consider a different Z axis mechanism.

I don't think there will be much of a Wally community.
but
Orphans are cool?
